Discovering the Gems of Portugal: A Memorable Trip to Praia Del Rey

Recently James and his family embarked on an unforgettable journey to Praia Del Rey in Portugal. Their stay was filled with world -class golf, vibrant local culture, and exquisite dining experiences!

Accommodation: A Slice of Paradise
We stayed in a newly renovated four-bedroom villa, complete with a private swimming pool. The villa offered the perfect blend of comfort and luxury, providing a safe space after our daily adventures. Situated on the Silver Coast of Portugal, just an hour away from Lisbon Airport, the villa’s location was both convenient and picturesque, making it an ideal base for our explorations.

Golfing Extravaganza
Our golfing adventure began with three rounds at some of the best courses Portugal has to offer. First on our list was the West Cliffs, ranked the second-best golf course in Portugal. The course’s breathtaking views and challenging layout made it our favourite. Next, we played at Royal Obidos, the host of the Portugal 2024 Open tournament. Its unique design and immaculate condition secured its spot as our second favorite. Finally, we enjoyed a round at Praia Del Rey, completing our trio of top-tier golfing experiences.

Padel Fun at West Cliffs
In addition to golf, we indulged in some padel at West Cliffs. With two courts available, we found the experience both fun and accessible for all skill levels. It was a fantastic way to mix up our activities and enjoy some friendly competition.

Exploring the Medieval Town of Obidos
One of the highlights of our trip was an afternoon spent in the medieval town of Obidos, located just 20 minutes from Praia Del Rey. Wandering through its charming streets, we felt transported back in time. The day’s highlight was a fantastic evening meal at a local restaurant, A Nova Casa De Ramiro. The food was delicious, and the ambiance was perfect, making it a memorable dining experience.

A Day in Lisbon
Our trip wouldn’t have been complete without a day out in Lisbon. The vibrant city offered a mix of historical sites, modern attractions, and culinary delights. We enjoyed a fabulous meal at Nunes, a renowned fish restaurant slightly out of town but well worth the visit. While not cheap, the fish was incredible, making it a must-visit for seafood lovers.

Exploring Peniche
About 20 minutes from our villa was the town of Peniche, a brilliant fishing and surfing town. We followed a local recommendation and dined at Tasca do Joel. The restaurant lived up to its reputation, offering an authentic taste of Portuguese cuisine in a charming setting.

Travel Tips
Flying from Manchester to Lisbon with Air Portugal was smooth and convenient. While Lisbon Airport is small and extremely busy, the overall experience was positive. We hired our car from Valpirent, which required us to pick up the vehicle from the Star Inn Hotel, located just outside the airport. While this arrangement might be inconvenient for some, it was manageable with a bit of planning. A rental car is essential for exploring the region, providing the freedom to visit the various towns and attractions at your own pace.

Final Thoughts
Our trip to Praia Del Rey was a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and cultural immersion. From the lovely villa to the world-class golf courses, the charming towns to the exquisite dining experiences, every aspect of our journey was memorable. Portugal’s charm and beauty left a lasting impression, and we can’t wait to return for another round of exploration and discovery.
