My Journey with Dubai 7s for Good was a life-Changing Experience in Uganda!
Since 2022, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with a client in the UAE, managing two incredible annual events: The Long Lunch and the Dubai 7s. Over the years, I’ve developed strong relationships with the Dubai 7s team – an inspiring group of people whose laid-back, trusting approach makes our job managing the silent auction seamless. They let us do what we do best, and that mutual trust is something I truly value.
One of the most meaningful parts of working with Dubai 7s is being involved with their fund-raising arm, Dubai 7s for Good. In my opinion, this initiative is nothing short of amazing.
Their chosen five-year project focuses on North Road Primary School in Mbale, Uganda – and what they’ve achieved so far is incredible. Year after year, they’ve raised funds and returned to the school to make tangible improvements: building rugby and netball pitches, creating changing room facilities, painting classrooms, planting trees, and even installing a water tank. The list of improvements goes on.
But it’s not just about bricks and mortar. They also bring rugby and netball coaches with them to train the local PE teachers, who then pass that knowledge on to their students. It’s sustainable change – empowering the community, not just helping it temporarily.
After seeing the footage and hearing the stories year after year, I knew I had to be part of this journey and I had to go!!
My time in Uganda…
Spending 7 nights in Uganda is something I will never, ever forget. Each day was a challenge – seeing children without shoes, food, or even proper clothes broke my heart. But I also came to realise while I can’t change everything, I can make small differences. And simply being there, I was already doing that!
What struck me most was the joy; these children had so little – yet they had everything. Their happiness didn’t depend on material things. It was pure, and it was contagious!
I’ve worked at Impulse for 7 years now, and during that time we’ve raised millions of pounds for charities around the world. In our busiest periods, it can be easy to go into autopilot mode – to forget why we do what we do. This trip snapped me out of that. It reminded me why I love this job and why I’m so proud to work for Impulse. Our mission is to help others, and we do that best when we connect with the cause on a human level.
Being in Uganda reignited that fire in me. It made me appreciate my job, my life, and myself more deeply. I went out there to teach and help the children – but without even knowing it, they ended up teaching and helping me far more than I could have ever expected.
I’m excited and energised to continue this work. I can’t wait to support more charities, raise more funds, and make more of a difference – one small step at a time.
