Golf, Sun & Luxury: Our La Cala Villa Experience Revealed

A First‑Hand Look at Our La Cala Golf Resort Villa Experience

I recently travelled to La Cala on the Costa del Sol to experience first‑hand the beautiful villa that we are now offering into charity auctions across the UK and abroad. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this is a standout experience – combining luxury accommodation, exceptional golf and access to some of southern Spain’s most appealing destinations.

The Villa Experience

The villa itself is very modern inside, with a light, open living feel throughout. The design creates a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces, making it ideal for relaxing together as a group. Large open living areas open directly onto the terrace and private swimming pool, creating a real sense of space and privacy. Despite being close to world‑class golf facilities, the villa feels peaceful and secluded – a true retreat.

With multiple bedrooms, the property comfortably accommodates large families or groups of up to eight golfers, while also working just as well for couples travelling together. It’s a highly versatile space that suits family holidays, golf trips or a couples’ escape with friends, all without feeling crowded.

Golf & Resort Facilities

For golfers, La Cala is hard to beat. During our stay, we enjoyed a morning of padel, which can be booked via the main hotel and is a great addition for non‑golfers or for mixing up activities during the week. The golf clubhouse is extremely well catered throughout the day, offering everything from early‑morning coffees through to relaxed afternoons in the sports bar. We were fortunate to be there during The Masters, which created an added buzz and excitement throughout the golf complex.

We managed three days of golf during the trip, starting with the Par Three Short Course, where we were able to take all the children – a fantastic way to introduce younger players to the game. We also played both the Asia Course, which the villa overlooks, and the Europa Course. Both courses are challenging and beautifully laid out across the hilly La Cala terrain. The condition of the courses was very good, and buggies are required due to the elevation changes. The Europa Course was the most impressive for me, although the Asia Course was also an excellent and demanding round. Unfortunately, time constraints and fully booked tee times meant we didn’t get the chance to play the Americas Course on this visit, but the practice facilities on site are excellent and were well used during our stay.

Exploring the Local Area

One of the great strengths of staying at La Cala is the variety of experiences easily accessible from the villa. We explored several nearby areas during the week, making it a brilliant destination for families as well as couples.

With the children, we visited the Butterfly Park in Benalmádena, which made for a memorable afternoon out. On another afternoon, we travelled to the historic village of Mijas Pueblo, known for its traditional Andalusian charm and stunning views. While there, we enjoyed a relaxed lunch at The Secret Garden Restaurant – a real highlight of the trip and a wonderful way to experience the local culture.

Dining & Beach Days

Dining throughout the stay was varied and excellent. Close to the villa, we enjoyed a lovely evening meal at Restaurante El Jinete, just one kilometre away, which specialises in steak. Although the outdoor area was closed during our April visit, it opens during the warmer summer months.

Beach trips were equally easy to arrange. La Cala de Mijas beach is just a ten‑minute drive away, where the children spent time playing in the sand while we enjoyed a delicious seafood lunch at Chiringuito Los Delfines, which specialises in fresh fish and local dishes. On another afternoon, we ventured slightly closer to Marbella for a beachfront lunch at Moosa Bay, offering a more relaxed, laid‑back coastal feel. One evening, we also dined at the fabulous El Oceano Beach Hotel, enjoying sunset views overlooking the Alboran Sea – a truly memorable setting.

Location, Weather & Year‑Round Appeal

The villa is ideally located close to local supermarkets in La Cala de Mijas and is approximately 25 minutes from Málaga Airport, making it very easy to reach while still feeling removed from the busier tourist hubs.

One of the biggest attractions of the Costa del Sol is its climate. With mild winters and warm summers, this region enjoys sunshine throughout the year, making it an ideal destination in every season. Spring and autumn offer perfect conditions for golf and outdoor activities, while summer brings long, sunny days ideal for poolside relaxation and beach trips. Even during the winter months, the area benefits from pleasant temperatures and clear skies.

For this reason, we would highly recommend visiting the Costa del Sol at any time of year – it’s a destination that genuinely offers sunshine, outdoor living and variety across the full 365 days.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this La Cala Golf Resort villa offers an outstanding balance of luxury, privacy, location and experience. It works perfectly for families, golfers and couples alike, and combines world‑class golf with easy access to beaches, traditional villages and excellent dining. It’s easy to see why this will be a highly sought‑after and high‑value experience when offered through charity auctions, both in the UK and internationally.
