Our Work Experience Week at Impulse Decisions

This week, we had the opportunity to complete our work experience at Impulse Decisions. As two 15-year-old students interested in different career paths, we were able to experience two different departments within the business. Eve joined the Marketing & Design Team, while Lenny worked with the Sports Hospitality Team.

Throughout the week, we learned about how the company operates, attended meetings, worked on real projects, and gained valuable experience that has helped us understand what working in a professional environment is like.

Day One

Eve – Marketing & Design Team

My first day started with the weekly Monday meeting, where I learned about the company, upcoming projects, and how all of the different departments work together. It was interesting to see how much planning goes into running events and experiences. After the meeting, I was given a tour of the building and introduced to members of the team. Everyone was very welcoming and happy to explain what they did. Later in the day, I watched how the brochures were designed which was very interesting, before then researching upcoming concerts and suggesting ideas that could be used in future marketing campaigns. I then planned a social media post that could be shared across all of Impulse Decisions’ social media platforms. This gave me my first insight into what it is like to work in marketing and how content is created for businesses. We then took part in the Monday morning fitness session which was pretty tough but great fun.

Lenny – Sports Hospitality Team

On my first day, I worked with the Sports Hospitality Team and learned how event packages are created. One of my tasks was helping to research a new package that Impulse Decisions could offer. I looked for hotels, activities and experiences in the local area that could be added to improve the customer experiences. I also created a professional email template that could be used when contacting 5-star hotels about partnerships, availability and pricing. It was interesting to see how much work goes into planning hospitality experiences before customers ever see them. After that I joined in on the Fitness session with Gabby, a personal trainer who comes to the office, which was a great end to the first day.

Day Two

Eve – Marketing & Design Team

The day started with the Tuesday morning marketing meeting where the team discussed social media content, current projects, and future plans. After the meeting, I created a social media post and learned more about content creation and audience engagement. Later, I updated parts of the Impulse Decisions website and learned how important it is to ensure website information is accurate and up to date.

Lenny – Sports Hospitality Team

On my second day, I created a table containing upcoming experiences, dates, and information on who would be attending each event. This task helped me understand how important organisation and attention to detail are when running large hospitality events. I also learned how event information is managed internally before being shared with clients.

Day Three

Eve – Marketing & Design Team

I began the morning by planning a social media post for a new memorabilia drop. I thought about how the products should be promoted and how to make the post engaging for customers. The rest of my day was spent attending the company’s quarterly meeting. It was really interesting to hear about company performance, future plans, achievements, and upcoming opportunities. It gave me a good understanding of how businesses plan for long-term growth.

Lenny – Sports Hospitality Team

My main task on day three was researching potential leads for future events. I created a table containing company names and contact details for people who could potentially be interested in future experiences and events. After this, I attended the quarterly meeting alongside the rest of the team. It was useful to hear from different departments and see how the whole business works together.

Day Four

Eve – Marketing & Design Team

On my fourth day, I posted content relating to the latest memorabilia release and learned more about managing content across social media platforms. After that, Lenny and I started writing this blog together so we could share our experience with others. Later in the day, we attended a formal meeting about updates that are currently being made to the Impulse Decisions website. It was interesting to see how much thought and planning goes into improving the customer experience online.

Lenny – Sports Hospitality Team

I started the day by researching charity and fundraising events that could potentially be used as future hospitality experiences. After completing my research, I worked with Eve on this blog before attending the website update meeting with the rest of the team. The meeting helped me understand how different departments contribute ideas towards improving company projects.

Day Five

Eve – Marketing & Design Team

On our final day, Lenny and I finished writing this blog. Afterwards, we were given a demonstration of a brand-new app that Impulse Decisions is currently developing. It was exciting to see a project that is still being worked on and learn about the features that may be included in the future. Later, I checked the website to identify any incorrect information, broken links, incorrect dates, or other issues that might need fixing.

Once we had completed the blog, I also attended the demonstration of the new Impulse Decisions app. Afterwards, Eve and I helped add information regarding the Dutch Grand Prix to the app, which gave us an insight into how content is managed and updated across different digital platforms. It was great to be involved with a real project and contribute to something that clients may use in the future.

Final Thoughts

Our week at Impulse Decisions was an amazing experience. We were trusted to work on real projects, attend important meetings, and contribute ideas across different areas of the business.

Everyone in the office was incredibly welcoming and always willing to answer questions, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

The week gave us a much better understanding of the marketing, sports hospitality, events, and business industries, and it has definitely helped us think about future career opportunities.

We would like to thank everyone at Impulse Decisions for giving us the opportunity to spend the week with them and for making us feel part

of the team.
