Empowering Leaders: A Journey of Self-Development and Growth

At Impulse Decisions, we place a strong emphasis on employee development and believe that personal growth is essential to our success.

It’s not just an initiative; it’s one of our core company values.

We are committed to providing opportunities for our team to learn, grow, and thrive, ensuring that every individual can reach their full potential and contribute to our collective achievements. Recently Aimee Locke Senior Event and Auction Manager and Freya Crosby-Close Experiences and Bookings Manager completed the Quarterdeck Leadership Programme.

Here’s Freya to tell us more…..

Course experience and insights:

Having recently been appointed as a manager of a small team, I sought out courses to help me grow into an effective leader. I orginally enrolled in the free seminar offered by Quarterdeck, which presented simple, effective, and easy-to-implement leadership techniques. The seminar truly resonated with me.

Woman in Business really interest and empower me to be the best I can be, so with the presenter being a strong confident lady – I think this hooked me in and inspired me to complete the full course!

The leadership course spanned six weeks and included six group sessions, combining self-work with opportunities to learn tips and strategies for becoming an inspirational leader. Each week, we presented to a small group, and over time, these individuals became good friends. Their feedback was invaluable, helping us refine and develop our presentation skills throughout the course.

I enjoy learning and place great emphasis on self-growth so I was really excited to start my first session. The group was lovely and I’ve become really close to some of the other attendees.

The key takeaways from the course varied for each participant. Some gained more confidence, others committed to improving their work-life balance, but for me, it was all about changing my attitude. By altering how I act, react, and think, I can create a better environment not only for myself but also for my team and those around me.

Another important lesson was to avoid criticising, condemning, or complaining, and this is something I am determined to continue working on.

Personal growth and development:

Since completing the course i feel like i have a more open approach to leadership. I have learnt that you don’t have to be a manager to inspire others and often it is those we manage (at work or children at home) that may be the ones to inspire. You inspire your team by showing them how amazing they are – not how amazing you are!

I learnt lots of skills and strategy’s which i have already started to implement in my role at Impulse Decisions! Often taking criticism is hard for most of us – especially from those who matter most to us! This course has really opened my eyes up to this and will be something I will be making a conscious effort to work on and change.

Networking and relationships:

Throughout the six-week course, I built numerous meaningful relationships and expanded my professional network. One of the most significant connections I made was with a fellow participant who was paired with me as a buddy during the program. Since then, we’ve become close friends, regularly meeting up for brunches and drinks, and staying in touch through WhatsApp. Our strong bond is a direct result of the leadership course, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have formed such a lasting and valuable connection.

Future goals and lasting impressions:

I am aiming to apply my learnings to both my personal and professional life. I will be focusing on being the leader that I would want to have myself. Attitude is contagious. Hopefully my team mates are seeing a difference in me and even during the busy and stressful times I will make an effort to not let this slide!

I thoroughly enjoyed the course. It was refreshing to experience something different and get out of the office. I also had the pleasure of meeting some amazing individuals who were participating. Hearing their stories and witnessing their growth, along with my own, was truly inspiring.

For those who are considering taking this course i would say its a really good opportunity to build on your leadership skills whilst providing time to self-reflect and remind yourself what is really important in life .
