Formula 1 Returns to Sepang
Sepang made its Formula 1 debut in 1999 and quickly became one of the calendar’s most respected challenges. The Tilke-designed layout, with its long straights, sweeping high-speed corners and the tight final hairpin, rewards brave driving and punishes mistakes in equal measure.
The 5.543 km circuit runs 15 corners across 56 race laps, a distance of just over 310 km. Add the tropical humidity and the ever-present threat of a late-afternoon monsoon and Sepang tests drivers, cars and strategists like few other venues.
2026 marks the championship’s return after a nine-year absence, the first time cars have run here since Max Verstappen won the 2017 Malaysian Grand Prix. Three days of track action, one of motorsport’s most passionate crowds and a circuit the paddock has long wanted back.
Note: The 2026 event at Sepang is staged under the official title of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, hosted in Malaysia following changes to the season calendar.

Turn 1 Terrace put us right over the first braking zone. Watching the field pile into that corner on lap one, with a cold drink in hand out of the heat, was worth every penny.
