The last time The Open was held at Royal Portrush in 2019, was arguably one of the most iconic in recent memory. While home favourite Rory McIlroy missed the cut by one, despite a showstopping second round 65, another Irishman, Shane Lowry, was crowned Champion Golfer of the Year and lifted the Claret Jug to the adulation of the local fans.
Ahead of The Open 2025, the iconic Royal Portrush course has been redesigned, featuring two new holes. The 7th and 8th holes have been introduced replacing the 17th & 18th to accommodate the large crowds witnessed in 2019, with up to 190,000 expected across the 4 days in 2025.
A short drive up the coast from the Giant’s Causeway, the Portrush coastline is a spectacular backdrop for the golf and roars of the crowds. The Open 2025 at Royal Portrush will undoubtedly have an incredible atmosphere with local fans willing one of their own to win on the fabled links again. Should Rory be able to add to his 4 Majors the party in Portrush could well continue long into the following week.
