The Open returns to Royal Birkdale in 2026 – one of the most iconic and revered venues in the Championship’s long history. Established in 1889 and redesigned in 1922, Royal Birkdale’s course winds its way through towering sand dunes, creating a dramatic and challenging layout that has hosted golf’s greatest names.
Since first staging The Open in 1954, Royal Birkdale has become one of the most regular venues on the rota, second only to St Andrews.
